A Unique Approach – A Civic Engagement Farm
The Farm practices reciprocal community engagement. Local farmers and food producers, organic horticultural/agricultural specialists, and sustainability experts are actively serving as co-educators for students, faculty, and staff. In turn, the benefits of academic research at the Farm will be publicly disseminated, ensuring that knowledge and techniques gained through research benefit the broader community. While most food grown on the farm will be sold to Bucknell Dining and donated to the B-Eats campus food pantry, any excess produce will be donated to local hot meal programs that address local food insecurity (such as Bucknell’s weekly Community Harvest dinner), building on the work of the Lewisburg Community Garden.
